Discovering bees in Salento delle Murge

“Discovering bees” is a journey that aims to lead guests into the wonderful world of bees, a world based on the organization of roles that makes these beings unique.

A beehive will be observed up close and the beekeeper will describe the various tasks to which each worker is dedicated at. After observing the products of the hive, it will be possible to taste the the nectar of the gods (honey), directly from the honeycomb. Participants will learn about the role of bees in biodiversity and their importance for agricultural production.

PROGRAM



5.00 p.m.: Meeting point in Grottaglie near the Campus Campitelli



5.15 p.m.: Departure to the Blasi farmlands, where the apiary of the Gemma Bruno farm is located.



5.30 p.m.: Arrival at the apiary.



Participants will be guided on a journey to learn about the world of bees, social insects whose organization into roles contributes to their uniqueness.

Participants will be equipped with a bee suit, just like a real beekeeper, so that they can observe bees in complete safety.

The beekeeper will show participants the main products of the hive and how they are made.

Tasting class, a real sensory experience, to assess the objective quality of the honey produced in the Salento Murge area, directly from the honeycomb.



Recommended clothing: comfortable clothing with long sleeves and trousers and closed-toe shoes with socks.
